GEO Audit

A GEO audit is a structured assessment of a brand's current citation share across AI engines, identifying gaps in entity strength, content structure, third-party signals, schema, and freshness — and prioritizing remediation.

What it is

A GEO audit measures and diagnoses. Measurement: run a representative prompt set (50–200 prompts in the brand's category) through each major AI engine (ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews) and quantify citation share per engine and aggregate. Diagnosis: identify which of the five GEO mechanisms (entity strength, answer-ready content, third-party signals, schema clarity, freshness) are weakest and would yield the highest-leverage improvements. The output is a prioritized remediation plan with measurable targets and a baseline against which to track progress.

Why it matters for GEO

You cannot improve what you do not measure. A GEO audit is the first deliverable in every CiterLabs sprint.

The CiterLabs perspective

Days 1–7 of every CiterLabs sprint is a full GEO audit. Lifetime access to the citation tracker is included.
